This past Thursday,we lost a musical legend,a true icon in Pop,R&B,Soul,Gospel music, one of the building blocks of modern music and one of the greatest voices of all time,Aretha Franklin who passed away on August 16th from complications from pancreatic cancer at the age of 76. When you list all of the things Aretha achieved musically it is truly mind boggling! Over 77 Billboard top entries,17 Pop top ten entries, over 100 R&B entries,20 #1 R&B singles, she is the most charted female artist in music history. She’s also earned 18 Grammy Awards and has sold over 75 million records worldwide. From Respect to You Make Me Feel(Like A Natural Woman) to Rock Steady to Freeway Of Love to I Knew You Were Waiting For Me to A Rose Is Still A Rose, Aretha crossed generations with her music and her legendary voice is instantly recognizable to millions. I first heard her sing over 50 years ago and even though I wasn’t the biggest Aretha fan,I was one who loved her voice and all of those hit songs! Her voice was dominant even in her later years. Sadly we are losing our music legends,to that I really don’t know what to say….the ONLY thing that I can do is try to honor her, which is why we played her music off and on all day Thursday and which is why we’ll have a special tribute show in her honor next Thursday August 23rd at 2:00 PM ET/7:00 PM-19:00 International time and play all of her big hit songs. I hope you all can join me and pay respects to THE DIVA!!!
